Army reservist Robert Card, a grenade training instructor, is believed to have been exposed to thousands of blasts.
Army Reservist Robert Card displayed a number of concerning behaviors ahead of the mass shooting that prompted warnings from authorities.
It means Card was likely alive and on the run for the majority of the two-day manhunt.

The statement came after a local sheriff deputy took to Facebook to express his opinion about the 48-hour manhunt for Robert Card.
Deputy Jon Guay said he wouldn’t hire state law enforcement “to manage the morning rush at Dunkin Donuts, much less an investigation of this size.”
“I did not have a sense he had any set targets,” the survivor said. “My sense was he saw someone moving and he shot.”
The violent confrontation in a parking lot in July led to a two-week stay in a psychiatric hospital.
The owner of Coastal Defense Firearms says that probably saved lives.
Authorities reportedly issued the alert in mid-September, urging officers to keep an eye out for Card.
Sources told CNN that Card purchased a Ruger SFAR rifle 10 days before psychiatric evaluation in July.
