In early August, Harris could have gone a long way to locking down the Keystone State and its oft-pivotal 19 electoral votes—if she had picked its governor as her running mate.

Ahead of Tuesday’s debate in Philly between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, Democrats remind the city that Trump is no loving brother.

Harris and her No. 2, who she’ll announce by Tuesday evening, will press the flesh in Vegas, Philly and Detroit, among other cities.

“Trump has become Biden’s best surrogate in Michigan,” said Jeff Timmer, a Trump critic and former executive director of the Michigan Republican Party.

One top-level donor said the campaign has “pre-funded” legal costs—or essentially set aside cash for the possibility that a fleet of lawyers might be needed in November.

Experts said this could inhibit Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s abilities to manage how her state fights the spread of the virus.

“He’s directly saying,” said Rep. Tim Ryan, who represents the city where Goodyear is located, “he wants to put you out of a job.”
