According to state media, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and King Salman on Tuesday met with family members of slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the royal palace in Riyadh. Per reports, the king and his son offered condolences to the family, including Khashoggi’s son, Salah, and brother, Sahel. Salah Khashoggi was banned from leaving Saudi Arabia last year due to his father’s criticism of the government. The meeting comes only hours after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered a harsh condemnation of Khashoggi’s “very cruel murder” and called his death a “political killing.” Although Erdogan did not directly implicate the Saudi royal family, he contradicted their claims that Khashoggi died after a spontaneous fight “aggregated (sic) the situation and led to his death” by labeling it a “pre-meditated” slaughter.
