It’d be nice to know the hard-earned cash we donate to help others is actually, you know, helping them. A yearlong investigation by the Tampa Bay Times and the Center for Investigative Reporting has resulted in a list of the worst charities in America, based on how much money actually makes it to the cause. No. 1 on the list is Kids Wish Network, which has given about $110 million to corporate solicitors in the past decade, and annually spends only 3 cents for each dollar to actually help kids—the rest goes to the charity’s operators and the for-profit companies hired to drum up donations. Other charities on the list include the Cancer Fund of America, Breast Cancer Relief Foundation, Project Cure, and more. You can read the entire list here.
