Undeterred by Kim Mulkey’s fiery speech last week, the Washington Post on Saturday published its much-anticipated article on the women’s college basketball coach—an article she preemptively dissed as a “hit piece” and threatened to sue the paper over. Mulkey stunned college basketball fans last week when she devoted several minutes of a March Madness press conference to the then-unreleased article, accusing reporter Kent Babb of engaging in “sleazy tactics” and attempting to solicit negative quotes in order to paint a biased and unfavorable view of her. She swore to take legal action against the newspaper if the article wasn’t up to standard. “I’ve hired the best defamation law firm in the country and I will sue The Washington Post if they publish a false story about me,” she said. Fans puzzled over what the piece would say about Mulkey, since its exact content was unclear based on her comments. It focuses on her relationships with many former players, especially with those who openly identified as gay—and a reported decade-long feud with former Baylor basketball star Brittney Griner.
