Days after the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate banned South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem from setting foot on tribal land, a sixth Sioux tribe joined in the banishment of the Trump-loving, puppy-killing Republican. The Yankton Sioux tribe voted Friday to bar Noem from their lands, a small swath of about 57 square miles in southeastern South Dakota. It’s a meager addition, but since Noem has already been barred from a whopping 16 percent of territory within South Dakota’s state lines, the places in her own state she’s allowed to go are dwindling. “If you look at a map, she basically has to stay on the interstate” highway, Lakota Law Project director Chase Iron Eyes told The Daily Beast on Friday. The six tribes that have banned Noem cited disparaging and racist comments she made at a town hall in March, in which she said Native parents were uncommitted to their children’s education and accused tribal leaders, without evidence, of colluding with Mexican cartels on reservation land. The tribes plan to keep the bans in place until Noem apologizes.
