Lara Trump is giving up her Senate dreams.

Trump, who formerly co-chaired the Republican National Committee, said she was dropping out of contention to replace Marco Rubio in a Saturday post on X. Rubio was tapped by Donald Trump to be his secretary of state in November.

“After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” the president-elect’s daughter-in-law, married to Eric Trump, shared with her followers.

“I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida. I have read so many of your kind messages and I cannot thank you enough,” she continued.

She then goes on to tease an upcoming “big announcement” before wishing Governor Ron DeSantis “the best of luck with this appointment.”

Responses to her withdrawal were mixed, with many X users taking to her replies to add their two cents.

“You were totally unqualified for the job. Something tells me, however, that Eric’s daddy is about to give you a job anyway,” one user wrote.

“Looking forward to your announcement in January Lara! Thank you for never backing down from the fight for freedom,” another added.

Social media wasn’t the only one skeptical of her possible appointment; Donald himself expressed doubt about the prospect earlier this week.

“No, I don’t. I probably don’t. But I don’t know,” Donald Trump told reporters. “Ron’s doing a good job. That’s his choice—nothing to do with me,” he told reporters on Tuesday, according to MSNBC.

Ultimately, the decision lies with DeSantis, who previously said he would announce his pick in the new year.

“More extensive vetting and candidate interviews will be conducted over the next few weeks, with a selection likely made by the beginning of January,” CBS News reports DeSantis wrote in a November X post.

“Florida deserves a senator who will help President Trump deliver on his election mandate, be strong on immigration and border security, take on the entrenched bureaucracy and administrative state, reverse the nation’s fiscal decline, be animated by conservative principles, and has a proven record of results,” he added.
