President Trump’s chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow confirmed late Tuesday that he hosted a publisher of white-nationalist commentary at his birthday party last week—but insists he didn’t know about the man’s political views. The publisher, Peter Brimelow, founded Vdare.com, an anti-immigration site known for hard-line commentary on race and immigration. He admitted in a 2016 interview with the Harvard Crimson that the website features “white-nationalist” writers who “stand up for whites.” After taking heat for his association with Brimelow on Tuesday, Kudlow said he’d known Brimelow “forever” but only knew of him as a financial journalist, The Washington Post reports. Kudlow told the Post that Brimelow has been a frequent guest at his dinner parties but “none of this other stuff has ever come up.” “If I had known this, we would never have invited him,” Kudlow said. “I’m disappointed and saddened to hear about it.”
