Celebrity attorney Lisa Bloom says it was a “mistake” to represent disgraced movie producer Harvey Weinstein amid mounting sexual assault allegations. Bloom, who had earned a reputation as a defender of women’s rights by representing the accusers in several sexual harassment lawsuits, left even her own mother, Gloria Allred, shocked when she took on Weinstein’s case earlier this month. She resigned as Weinstein’s adviser last week following major backlash. In an interview with BuzzFeed News published Saturday, Bloom said she now realizes “my just being associated with this was a mistake.” “All I can say is, from my perspective, I thought, ‘Here is my chance to get to the root of the problem from the inside. … I thought that would be a positive thing, but clearly it did not go over at all,” she said. When she took on Weinstein’s case, she said, she was not aware of the rumors about him in Hollywood. “Before all this became public, there were plenty of people who thought he was a great guy,” she said. “I have clearly not been successful. I think anybody who does big bold things fails. And I definitely failed on this one.”
