Lord & Taylor, Another Coronavirus Casualty, Declares Bankruptcy

The company, which was sold last year, joins Brooks Brothers and Neiman Marcus on the list of retailers filing Chapter 11.

The venerable department store chain Lord & Taylor is declaring bankruptcy, citing the pandemic. Le Tote, which bought the retailer last year, also filed for Chapter 11 on Sunday. Lord & Taylor is the oldest department store in the nation, dating back to 1826, and has 38 locations nationwide. It joins a growing list of apparel retailers who were plunged into crisis by the coronavirus crisis, with Neiman Marcus, Brooks Brothers, and J.Crew also going bankrupt.
