Lululemon Reaches Out to Men: Lululemon plans to expand its line of menswear by opening a men’s clothing store in 2016. According to NY Daily News, as of January 2013, menswear accounted for 12 percent of the company’s overall sales. Lululemon is most notable for its pricey workout gear (both men’s and women’s bottoms retail for around $100), leading skeptics to wonder if men will spend enough money on the attire to make standalone menswear stores a success. The plans for expansion come shortly following the CEO of the company stepped down from her position in June and after the recall of a line of see-through yoga pants in March. [NY Daily News]
Willie Nelson Nabs John Varvatos Campaign: Willie Nelson, 80-year-old country musician, fronts the Fall/Winter 2013 campaign for John Varvatos, with sons Micah and Lukas Nelson. The photos were shot by Danny Clinch in the Salisbury House museum in Des Moines, Iowa. A three-minute film that accompanies the advertisement will launch on johnvarvatos.com Tuesday, featuring Nelson and his sons. Varvatos didn't hide his pleasure of working with Nelson. “In all the iconic music ad campaigns we have shot over the last eight years, I have never been so moved as I was working with Willie Nelson and his sons,” Varvatos told WWD. “Willie is a true American icon, and it runs deep in the bloodline.” [WWD]
Jay-Z Names a Song After Tom Ford: Jay-Z took designer name dropping to a new level by dedicating an entire song to fashion designer Tom Ford. In his 12th studio album, “Magna Carta Holy Grail,” Jay-Z fittingly titled one of the tracks “Tom Ford” and mentions the designer repeatedly in the lyrics. Tom Ford himself is thrilled by the recognition. "I am completely flattered,” Ford told Billboard. “I mean, come on, who would not want a Jay-Z song named after them?" [Billboard]
