A 57-year-old British national wanted on drug charges in Western Australia nearly made it to Papua New Guinea on a jet ski. He traveled 93 miles through the shark-infested Torres Strait in his flip-flops, armed only with a crossbow, The Guardian reports. He also had extra fuel and other supplies, according to police. He was arrested on mudflats off the island of Saibai, just a few miles from his final destination. “He gave it a red-hot go,” Jock O’Keeffe of Queensland police told The Guardian. The police used local spotters on boats and the island to track the fugitive’s movements. “It’s a bit unusual to try and get from Pundsand Bay all the way to PNG. He stuck out like the proverbial,” O’Keeffe said, adding that the still-unidentified man was facing serious drug charges. “We wouldn’t have gone to this sort of effort if they weren’t significant charges.”
