The man suspected of mowing down pedestrians with a van in Toronto on Monday, killing 10 and injuring 16 others, will appear in court Tuesday morning to hear what charges he faces, police confirmed. Toronto Police tweeted that Alek Minassian, 25, will appear in court at 10 a.m. local time. The Toronto Star reported that security has been beefed up throughout the city after the deadly rampage, and New York City police reportedly announced they would be deploying counterterror officers in and around Toronto as a precaution. The police officers who apprehended Minassian have been praised for for their cool response to the deadly attack, with local defense lawyer Ari Goldkind tweeting: “Based on what was known at the time of the arrest, @TorontoPolice used what appears to be remarkable restraint in not firing at the suspect when the suspect pointed a weapon at them.”
