Acclaimed author Margaret Atwood announced on Twitter Wednesday that she is in the process of writing a sequel to her novel The Handmaid’s Tale that is slated to be released in September 2019. Atwood revealed that the sequel will be set 15 years after her protagonist Offred’s final scene, and will be narrated by three female characters. The highly anticipated return to Gilead is titled The Testaments.
Atwood is the author of more than 40 books of fiction, poetry, and critical essays, in addition to The Handmaid’s Tale. The Hulu-produced TV adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale has won two Golden Globes and three Emmys.
