Martha Stewart pushed Drew Barrymore off of her on Tuesday morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, as the host once again got too touchy-feely with one of her guests.

As Barrymore petted Stewart on the back, the homemaking mogul pushed her off, prompting Barrymore to dramatically fall backwards onto the couch as Stewart told her “You’re the wrong gender.”

Stewart had visited the show to talk about her new cookbook, her 100th, which prompted Barrymore to ask what makes the famous homemaking mogul feel “soft and gooey inside.”

Stewart responded that “soft and gooey treatment” is what does the trick.

Barrymore surmised in response, “Being treated like a lady,” as the host began petting her back. “Someone comes in and...” Barrymore was saying before Stewart pushed her back.

After Stewart quipped that she’d prefer that “soft and gooey treatment” from a man, Barrymore joked, “I know. Although the way it’s going with men though, Martha, I’m not so sure anymore.”

Barrymore has drawn some ridicule online for her intimate interview style, and this interaction with Stewart is further fuel for that critique. Barrymore addressed the online chatter during the show’s September premiere, following the latest kerfuffle at the time over the way she’d touched Oprah Winfrey during her sit-down on the show.

“It’s so funny because consistently over the last five years, it’s that I’m too touchy and too close to people, which is so embarrassing,” she said then, adding to her viewers, “I don’t know if I can break the habit,” but “I hear you and I’ll do my best.”

Stewart has expressed before that she struggles with affection.

In her Netflix documentary Martha, she talks about her disinterest with expressing emotions and dealing with the emotions of others, as she draws a connection to her childhood: “There was not a lot of ‘affection’ in our house.”

Recently, Stewart’s ex-husband Andy Stewart of 29 years accused his famous ex-wife of being “abusive” during their marriage.
