Martina Navratilova, the tennis superstar-turned-Wimbledon contributor for the BBC, said Monday she is “extremely angry” with the network for paying fellow commentator John McEnroe at least 10 times more than her. “It’s extremely unfair and it makes me angry for the other women that I think go through this,” Navratilova said on Panorama: Britain’s Equal Pay Scandal, which aired Monday. The pay gap was first revealed last year in a list showing McEnroe as one of the BBC’s highest-paid employees, with a salary of between $210,000 and $280,000 for his Wimbledon role. Navratilova said she gets $21,000 for the job. The BBC has explained the pay difference by saying Navratilova is only an “occasional contributor” who appears in fewer broadcasts than McEnroe. The network has been under fire since details emerged about pay disparities last year. A subsequent BBC review found a 6.8 percent pay gap “but no evidence of gender bias.”
