Three teenagers were killed and 14 others injured Friday night in a mass shooting at Young Park in Las Cruces, N.M. No suspect has been identified. The police department did not share any details about the cause of the shooting but said its investigation was ongoing. The shooting occurred at around 10 p.m.Two of the victims were 19 years old, and the third was 16. More than 50 mass shootings have taken place thus far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that nearly 47,000 people died of gun-related injuries in 2023. About eight out of ten U.S. murders in 2023 involved a firearm. The deadliest mass killings over the last few years have occurred at schools, stores, bars, and places of worship, including a high school in Parkland, Florida; a Walmart in El Paso, Texas; Pulse nightclub in Orlando; and the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.
