McCain: Palin Was ‘Best Fit’

Sen. John McCain’s camp issued a statement on Tuesday attempting to clarify his remarks earlier in the day, when he said he chose Sarah Palin over Mitt Romney as his running mate in 2008 because she was the “better candidate.” It all started when McCain was asked whether Romney’s tax returns were a factor in his decision, which he flatly denied and then threw out the comment about Palin. He later backtracked on his remarks, slamming the media for taking his answer “out of context” and disassociating himself from the Obama campaign’s “bogus tax-return attacks” against Romney. He explained that Palin was the “best fit for my campaign” and concluded that Romney “will make an outstanding president.”
