Relying on oven thermostats is so passé: MEATER+ is a thermometer that you put into your food while it’s in the oven and it transmits real-time data to your phone. It’s probably the coolest thermometer I’ve ever seen. Best of all, this top-rated meat gadget is 20 percent off today (usually $99.95) on Amazon.
The thermometer itself is smaller than a pen and connects to your phone over WiFi or Bluetooth. Afterward, it calculates both the inside of your food (I tried salmon after MEATER sent me a thermometer to try out) and the ambient temperature around it, which is an interesting test of your oven’s thermostat. One of my favorite features is the MEATER’s prediction: Based on what I can only guess is the rate of increasing temperature, it lets you know when your food will be ready. Likewise, it can guide you to a perfect temperature with internal tips on different meats and fish. We set our salmon to cook at 125 degrees and we got it at 125 degrees — I don’t remember the last time I cooked salmon so perfectly.
For $100, the value of this digital thermometer is really in the quality of food you’re going to get from this point on. It’s not easy getting meats and fish on point, and with MEATER, you have a pretty hefty helping hand.
