Meghan McCain Won’t See or Read ‘Ghost of John McCain’ Play

‘HOPE IT BOMBS’

The new play set its cast this week and producers said that McCain’s daughter didn’t accept their invite to a reading after she called it “trash” earlier this year.

The Ghost of John McCain, a new off-Broadway play debuting in the fall, has set its cast—but hasn’t made any headway in convincing the late senator’s daughter that it isn’t “trash,” according to a new report by Deadline. The musical satire will follow the decorated veteran turned Arizona senator who died in 2018, as he ascends to heaven and finds that it’s inside Donald Trump’s brain. In April, Meghan McCain took to Twitter/X to slam the play, seemingly based on its premise alone, and called the musical a “gross cash grab by mediocre desperate people.” She added, “I hope it bombs.” Producers told Deadline they’ve extended McCain an invitation to attend a reading of the musical, which she declined. “Meghan McCain has not seen any readings of the production and to our knowledge has not read the script,” they told the site. McCain did not respond to a request for comment for the Daily Beast.
