First Lady Melania Trump on Saturday said she believes Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is “highly qualified” for the job. She went on to say she thinks Christine Blasey Ford’s sexual assault allegation against Kavanaugh had been properly vetted prior to the final confirmation vote. “I'm glad that Dr. Ford was heard, I'm glad that Judge Kavanaugh was heard. FBI investigation was done, is completed and Senate voted,” Trump told reporters during her trip to Egypt. She declined to comment on whether she believed Ford’s allegation, instead calling for more support to be given to abuse victims in general. “I am against any kind of abuse or violence,” she said. Her comments came as President Trump took to Twitter to praise the Supreme Court nominee just hours before a final vote on his confirmation. Trump said female demonstrators in support of Kavanaugh’s confirmation were a “beautiful thing to see.” “And they are not paid professional protesters who are handed expensive signs,” he said, a reference to his earlier claim that those protesting against Kavanaugh have been paid to do so.
