Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) on Thursday said he is “not contemplating anything but re-election” as he stands trial on federal corruption charges. Menendez, who has been absent from the Senate as the trial is ongoing, also did not commit to resigning if he is convicted. “I have no intention of being anything but exonerated,” Menendez told CNN. He is accused of having used his position as a member of Congress to help a friend, Dr. Salomon Melgen, in disputes with the federal government in exchange for donations and lavish travel gifts.
