The Mexican army said Thursday that it had captured a major cartel leader that had allegedly been behind the deadly fire that killed 52 people at a casino in northern Mexico. Carlos Oliva Castillo, also known as “The Frog” and believed to be the leader of the violent Zetas cartel, may have also been behind a bloody fight on Thursday between gang members that left seven dead in a prison outside Monterrey, the city where the casino attack occurred. Oliva Castillo, 37, was flown to Mexico City and presented to journalists, but he has not yet been formally charged. He ranked third in importance in the Zetas drug cartel, under Heriberto “Lazca” Lazcano and Miguel Angel Trevino, who are both still at large.
