The law enforcement official who leaked Michael Cohen’s financial records last week told The New Yorker that he or she feared that something might have been hidden from law enforcement. “The official had grown alarmed after being unable to find two important reports on Cohen’s financial activity in a government database,” The New Yorker reported. Last week, it was revealed that telecom giant AT&T and a firm linked to Russian oligarch Viktor Vekselberg, among other companies, invested in Cohen’s shell company. “That system is a safeguard for the bank. It’s a stockpile of information. When something’s not there that should be, I immediately became concerned,” the official said. “That’s why I came forward.”
