Michael Jordan has donated $1 million each to two organizations he believes will help build trust between civilians and law enforcement, including the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the Institute for Community-Police Relations. “I have been deeply troubled by the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and angered by the cowardly and hateful targeting and killing of police officers,” Jordan wrote in a letter to The Undefeated. The latter group was launched in May by the International Assocation of Chiefs of Police. Throughout Jordan’s basketball career, he never took public stances on politics. But on Monday, he said, “I grieve with the families who have lost loved ones, as I know their pain all too well.” He added, “Although I know these contributions alone are not enough to solve the problem, I hope the resources will help both organizations make a positive difference.”
