Michelle Wolf fired back at the White House Correspondents’ Association after they announced historian (and Alexander Hamilton author) Ron Chernow would replace the traditional comedian’s performance at 2019’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. “The @whca are cowards. The media is complicit. And I couldn't be prouder,” the comedian tweeted in reference to her performance at last year’s event, which seems to have prompted the organization to go in a different direction. In particular, Wolf’s jokes about Sarah Huckabee Sanders produced weeks’ worth of controversy. “I wouldn’t change a single word that I said. I’m very happy with what I said, and I’m glad I stuck to my guns,” Wolf told NPR’s Terry Gross following the backlash.
