The statement urged residents to only use filter water for drinking supplies and food preparation. Flint's water crisis emerged two years ago, when the city decided to switch water sources from Lake Huron to the Flint River. However, the new supply corroded water pipes, prompting lead to filtrate the system. The city has since switched back, but lead levels in its water supplies remain high.
