Day-to-day life is getting harder for Midwesterners, as home wells dry up and crops fail under the worst American drought in recent memory, which now afflicts over 63 percent of the U.S. Hundreds have said that water pipes have failed in states from Indiana to Kansas, and many are forced to drive miles a day to get fresh water, or spend serious money to get their wells dug deeper. The drought is also putting pressure on consumer pocketbooks, as more expensive corn jacks up other food prices.
