The Democratic Party has selected Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to host its 2020 national convention, The Daily Beast has confirmed. The key battleground state was chosen over Houston and Miami. Milwaukee will play host to the convention from July 13-16, 2020. Wisconsin—which hadn’t voted for a Republican presidential candidate since 1984—went to Trump in the 2016 election. The state now holds special meaning for Democratic candidates hoping to reclaim the state in 2020. “If we’re going to take back the White House, restore the guard rails of our democracy, and make government work for American families, we need to earn it,” said DNC Chair Tom Perez. “... This choice is a statement of our values... The Democratic Party is the party of working people, and Milwaukee is a city of working people.” Republicans are set to hold their convention in Charlotte, N.C., from Aug. 24-27, 2020.
