Minnesota TV Reporter Fired After Wearing MAGA Hat Outside Trump Rally

The TV station says he violated a policy against wearing clothing from a political campaign while on assignment.

A TV reporter in southern Minnesota has been fired after wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat while covering a Trump rally earlier this week. James Bunner, a multimedia journalist for KTTC-TV in Austin, broke a rule against wearing clothing from a political campaign during an assignment, the TV station said. “He violated our policy so he’s no longer with us,”  Noel Sederstrom, KTTC’s news director, told BuzzFeed News. While Bunner had been outspoken about his pro-Trump views on social media, Sederstrom said his political stance had nothing to do with his dismissal. Displaying campaign clothing while reporting is just “not something we allow,” Sederstrom said.
