The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly planning to pass on veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers in favor of the team’s promising young talent J.J. McCarthy. Citing league sources, The Athletic reports that the NFL team considered signing Rodgers after he expressed interest, but opted against making the move for the time being. Although Rodgers will remain on their radar, the Vikings are reportedly pursuing McCarthy with full-force instead and giving him every chance to earn the job. The 22-year-old recent college graduate missed his entire rookie season after suffering a torn meniscus in his right knee. His path to the Viking’s quarterback position can be secured if he has a strong showing this spring, The Athletic adds. Rodgers, no stranger to controversy in recent years, has also reportedly drawn the attention of the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers after his ouster from the New York Jets last month. Retirement is also an option for Rodgers, who will turn 42 this year.
