Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves has declared a state of emergency in the wake of severe storms and a devastating tornado that swept through Mississippi and Alabama Friday evening. By Saturday afternoon, the death toll had risen to 24—23 in Mississippi, one in Alabama—with dozens more injured. Three of the deaths were identified in a single home in Carroll County, Mississippi. Rescue crews are still working on search efforts, cutting trees to access people’s homes.
