Missouri Republicans don’t want to eliminate evolution from their public school’s curriculum altogether, they just want parents to have the option to take their kids out of science class when if their teacher decides to muddy their little minds with Darwin’s theory. That’s the objective of House Bill 1472, which the National Center for Science Education’s deputy director has said “would eviscerate the teaching of biology in Missouri.” HB 1472’s authors are responsible for a number of thus far failed bills in the state House that mandate teachers devote “equal time” to teaching intelligent design as they do evolution at all public schools, colleges and junior colleges included.
