A branch of multinational packaged food giant Mondelez International recalled 16 products from their Ritz brand Sunday—including Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches and Ritz Bits Cheese—citing salmonella concerns, according to NBC4. In a press release, Mondelez Global LLC noted the possible consequences of contracting the disease: “Salmonella is a microorganism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children,” they wrote, “frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”  The concern stems from potentially contaminated whey powder. Although they have not yet received reports of any customers contracting salmonella, Mondelez has cautioned consumers in the U.S., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico to throw out the listed products.
