The active search for wild monkey--one of several animals released by the owner of a private Ohio zoo--has been called off because police believe the monkey was eaten. Ohio law-enforcement officials have cordoned off seven square miles of Interstate 70 as they search for the animals. They’ve hunted down as many as 49 animals—including leopards, bears, and tigers—since zoo owner Terry Thompson freed them last night before killing himself. Thompson was warned 30 times in the last year to get his animals under control, and he was arrested in 2005 for animal abuse. The monkey reportedly had herpes.
