Montana Lawmakers Condemn Plans for Neo-Nazi March

Lawmakers in Montana on Tuesday responded to a scandal brewing in the town of Whitefish, where neo-Nazis plan to hold a march “carrying high-powered rifles” to protest against Jewish residents. U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke, recently announced as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for interior secretary, was among the lawmakers who warned the town’s neo-Nazis against stirring up trouble. “We say to those few who seek to publicize anti-Semitic views that they shall find no safe haven here,” Zinke said in an open letter signed by Democratic Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, U.S. senators Republican Steve Daines and Democrat Jon Tester, and Republican Attorney General Tim Fox. The letter comes in response to calls from a white-supremacist website to “take action” against Jewish residents on behalf of Sherry Spencer, the mother of white-nationalist leader Richard Spencer. Sherry Spencer is reportedly under financial pressure to sell a building she owns in Whitefish, a move which some neo-Nazis blame Jewish residents for.
