NASA has been mulling over a decision to use Elon Musk’s SpaceX to finally bring astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams back to Earth, but their spacesuits are reportedly ruling that option out. Wilmore and Williams have been stranded at the International Space Station since June after their original eight-day mission was thwarted by their Boeing Starliner’s leaks and failed thrusters. Unable to use the craft to return, Reuters reported that the agency has a backup plan to make two seats available on an upcoming SpaceX’s Crew Dragon mission, which would return Wilmore and Williams home in Feb. 2025. However, TMZ reported that Wilmore and Williams’ suits were specifically made for the interior of the Boeing Starliner and are not compatible with the plug systems on the SpaceX Dragon due their design.“NASA’s decision on whether to return Starliner to Earth with astronauts aboard is expected no earlier than Saturday, Aug. 24 at the conclusion of an agency-level review,” NASA said in a statement.
