Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) have publicly backed Sen. Jeff Flake’s (R-AZ) earlier calls for a one-week delay on Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote to allow for an FBI investigation. “I applaud Senator Jeff Flake’s decision to rise above the partisan circus on display during this entire process. It took courage to take a stand and call for a one-week FBI investigation to get to the bottom of the allegations against Judge Kavanaugh,” Manchin wrote in a statement Friday. “It is what is right and fair for Dr. Ford, Judge Kavanaugh, and the American people.” Murkowski told CNN that she supports an FBI investigation but “it has to be limited in time and scope... I support the FBI having an opportunity to bring some closure to this.” In a tweet, Heitkamp wrote that the investigation would “get politics out of this process and allow an independent law enforcement agency to do its job.”
