New Orleans songwriter, pianist, and performer Allen Toussaint has passed away at the age of 77, multiple reports confirmed Tuesday morning. He reportedly died of a heart attack following a performance in Madrid. Rescue workers were able to revive Toussaint at his hotel room, but he stopped breathing in the ambulance and was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital. The influential R&B figure, best known for songs like “Working in the Coal Mine” and “Southern Nights,” is survived by two children and multiple grandkids.
