An American in Paris and Fun Home, two widely popular musicals, led the pack in Tony Award nominations announced Tuesday. Both shows garnered 12 nominations, including for both best actor and actress in a musical, and best musical overall.

Disgraced by Ayad Akhtar; Hand to God by Robert Askins; The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Simon Stephens; and Wolf Hall Parts One & Two by Hilary Mantel and Mike Poulton took the nominations for best play. Nominees for best lead actor in a play are Steven Boyer (Hand to God), Bradley Cooper (The Elephant Man), Ben Miles (Wolf Hall Parts One & Two), Bill Nighy (Skylight), and Alex Sharp (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time). Best leading actress nominations in a play went to Geneva Carr (Hand to God), Helen Mirren (The Audience), Elisabeth Moss (The Heidi Chronicles), Carey Mulligan (Skylight), and Ruth Wilson (Constellations).

An American in Paris, Fun Home, Something Rotten!, and The Visit were nominated for best musical. Leading actor nominations in that category went to Michael Cerveris (Fun Home), Robert Fairchild (An American in Paris), Brian d’Arcy James (Something Rotten!), Ken Watanabe (The King and I), and Tony Yazbeck (On the Town). Leading actress in a musical nods went to Kristin Chenoweth (On the Twentieth Century), Leanne Cope (An American in Paris), Beth Malone (Fun Home), Kelli O’Hara (The King and I), and Chita Rivera (The Visit).
