Joe Rogan made a chillingly accurate prediction about California wildfires way back in July.
Speaking about firefighters at the Los Angeles Fire Department on his eponymous podcast, Rogan told comedian Sam Morril that one firefighter had warned him that given the right wind conditions, a blaze could rip through L.A. “all the way to the ocean.”
Rogan said, quoting the firefighter: “One day, it’s just gonna be the right wind and fire’s gonna start in the right place and it’s gonna burn through L.A. all the way to the ocean, and there’s not a f---ing thing we can do about it.”
Rogan said he asked if that was true, and the firefighter responded that with previous fires, the city would “just get lucky with the wind.” “If the wind hits the wrong way, it’s just going to burn through L.A. and there’s not a thing we can do about it,” Rogan said.
“These fires are so big... once it happens, it happens in a way that it’s so spread out that there’s nothing they can do.”
The clip has since begun to recirculate online, and Rogan reshared it on his Instagram story after artist Milana Blackman pointed out that he predicted the fires. “And here we are,” she said.
She added: “This is projected to be the most catastrophic wildfire in our country’s history.”
Five people have died so far in the fires, while 2,000 buildings have been destroyed by the flames. Rogan, who moved from Los Angeles to Texas in 2020, has spoken in the past about how he left California in part due to the threat of wildfires.
After evacuating his Los Angeles home three times and watching houses around his property burn to the ground, he said he “didn’t trust” the dry environment.
