The NAACP issued a warning Tuesday to black travelers based on “a pattern of disturbing incidents reported by African-American passengers, specific to American Airlines.” According to the notice, the incidents “suggest a corporate culture of racial insensitivity and possible racial bias” and booking flights on the airline could expose them to “disrespectful, discriminatory, or unsafe conditions.” A spokeswoman said American Airlines was “disappointed” to hear about the advisory. “Our team members—a diverse community of gate agents, pilots, and flight attendants—are proud to serve customers of all backgrounds,” she said. Representatives from the NAACP will plan to meet at the company’s Fort Worth, Texas, headquarters after an invitation from the giant air carrier.
