Thirty-seven year-old NASCAR driver Jason Leffler died Wednesday night after crashing during a heat race at a dirt car event in Swedesboro, New Jersey. Leffler, nicknamed “LefTurn,” crashed on a high-banked dirt oval and had to be extricated from his car to be taken to the hospital. He was a two-time winner of the NASCAR Nationwide Series and turned to dirt racing after moving on from a full-time NASCAR season in 2011. Leffler leaves behind his 5-year-old son, Charlie Dean.
