New Jersey said Monday that it had ended a ban against the book The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness in its prisons. New Jersey ended the ban just hours after the American Civil Liberties Union sent a letter to the state’s prisons commissioner calling the ban unconstitutional. The New Jim Crow, by Michelle Alexander, details how the criminal justice system discriminates against against black Americans. The ACLU called the ban on the book “ironic, misguided, and harmful.”
