S.I. Newhouse Jr., the media icon who ran the Condé Nast empire, died Sunday, his family said. He was 89. Newhouse owned and ran magazines including The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Vogue, among others. Newhouse was responsible for hiring top magazine editors, including Tina Brown, David Remnick, and Anna Wintour.
