News Chopper Catches Missing 9-Year-Old on His Roof Playing Hooky on iPad
IN PLAIN SIGHT
The search for a missing 9-year-old boy in Brooklyn ended Thursday when a news helicopter spotted him on the roof of his apartment building. The child’s parents called police when their son failed to show up at school, prompting the NYPD to issue a description of the boy. CBS News New York sent a chopper to the area. When it arrived, veteran helicopter reporter Dan Rice noticed a child sitting on the roof of the apartment building from which the boy had gone missing that morning. “We zoomed in with the camera—it appeared to be the child that fit the description of the missing child,” Rice said. The station called the NYPD, with officers soon arriving to take the child back to his parents. A neighbor said they’d seen the boy on the roof at around 8 a.m. but hadn’t thought anything of it. “There’s a swinging bench up there, sort of. The kid was sitting on the bench playing on his iPad,” the neighbor said. “I thought his parents gave him permission to go up there.”
