A Republican congressional candidate in North Carolina hit the jackpot recently—quite literally. Josh McConkey, an emergency room doctor and U.S. Air Force Reserve Colonel, won his state’s lottery earlier this month for a payout of more than $700,000, according to an interview he gave to The Daily Mail this weekend. “This is divine intervention,” he told the outlet. “There’s there’s no other way to explain it, the timing is just absolutely perfect.”
