North Carolina GOP Leader Shares Fake Photo to Mock Christine Blasey Ford

A North Carolina GOP leader shared a picture of a girl with braces and large glasses online, claiming it was Christine Blasey Ford, who’s accused Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assaulting her. “This is the alleged sexual assault victim. Wow,” Cabarrus County GOP chairman Lanny Lancaster wrote in a Tuesday Facebook post. The News & Observer reports that the photo turned out to be a widely-circulated meme that users on 4chan were claiming was Ford. Lancaster told the newspaper that he just wanted to show “the real person.” “The media wants you to think she was a beautiful young lady who was on her way home from the tennis courts,” he said. “I didn’t say anything. I just said this is her picture. Basically, the media is distorting the facts on this lady.”
