It’s suspected that the test is in response to ongoing U.S.-South Korea military drills—and North Korea threatened to strike both Seoul and Washington after those drills were announced. A North Korean official insisted Saturday’s exercise was just a drill, but it came just one day after the U.S. announced plans to beef up its missile defense system on the West Coast in response to an increased threat from North Korea.
