Step aside, Polar Vortex. New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency as the Winter Storm Janus hit the East Coast and up to 14 inches of snowfall was predicted for New York City. Thousand of flights have already been canceled, but, far from blowing over, the storm is expected to be followed by a deep freeze. In snow-covered Illinois, the temperature dropped to 25 degrees below zero and could go as low as 40 below.
